Role permissions

Role permissions allow you to grant view and edit access to various features in Varicent Sales Planning for your contributors. This allows for collaboration across your organization.

Contributors see a specific contributor view based on their assigned territories and the permissions set for their role. A contributor will only be able to view or edit territories that they own. For example, if a contributor owns a battle card, that contributor can access all territory groups and territories within that battle card. If a contributor owns a territory group, then that contributor will only be able to access the territory group that they own when they click into the battle card.

You can set permissions for each contributor role. There are two contributor roles: Battle card owner and Territory group & territory group type owner. A user's role depends on their ownership level. For example, a user assigned as an owner on a Battle card is automatically granted the view and edit permissions configured for the Battle card owner. It is possible for a user to be an owner on both a battle card and territory group type or territory group. In this case, that contributor is granted the most expansive permissions.

You can set the following view and edit permissions for the Plan version of your planning cycle and for the Manage version, though manage permissions can only be set after you've activated your planning cycle. See, Activating a planning cycle scenario. All contributor permissions are disabled by default.

Note

View and edit permissions for quota sheet columns are still set up in the Data tab. Contributors can only access the Quota view in Plan when a quota workflow is active. See, Quota approval workflows.

Setting contributor role permissions

You can set up view and edit permissions for contributor roles. This gives users with these roles limited access to the planning cycle.

  1. On the Planning cycles home page, click the planning cycle to open.

  2. Click the Command center icon Screen_Shot_2021-10-04_at_5_40_21_PM.png.

  3. Under the Admin section, click User management.

  4. Click the Role permissions tab.

  5. Under Contributor roles, select a role:

    • Battle card owner - any contributors that own battle cards.

    • Territory group & Territory group type owner - any contributors that own territory groups or territory group types.

  6. Select the check boxes under the Visible column to grant view access to specific Sales Planning features.

    Note

View access to Plan and Manage features must be granted at the highest level. This means that your contributors can see all listed features in the Plan version of your planning cycle, or none (no access to the Plan version). The same is true of the Manage version.

  7. Select the check boxes under the Editable column to grant edit access to specific Sales Planning features.

  8. Click Save.
