Quota files
If your organization has complex quota setting processes, you can choose to import your quota settings into Varicent Sales Planning through a file import. This allows you to use external tools such as Varicent's Symon.AI or Excel to perform the calculations needed to allocate quota to your territories.
This is an alternative to Varicent Sales Planning's top-down quota allocation feature.
Formatting quota files
Before you get started creating your quota files, make sure you fully understand the file requirements. See Best practices for formatting your data.
Quota files require the following columns:
Column name | Description | Data format | Example |
---|---|---|---|
Quota component | NoteThis column is only required if you've defined more than one quota component for your planning cycle. Contains the name of the quota component, for example Hardware or Software. This field must correspond with a quota component that you added to your planning cycle. This field is case sensitive so make sure to match the spelling and capitalization of your quota component exactly. | Text | Hardware |
Territory ID | Contains the unique ID of the territory you are allocating quota to. | Text | TER-001 |
Value | Contains contains the quota value that you want to allocate to the territory. This column can contain numeric values only. Do not include currency symbols or comma thousand separators. | Numeric | 2000.00 |
Period | NoteThis column is not required if your planning cycle periodicity is set to yearly. Contains a breakdown of the periods in your planing cycle, based on your periodicity. Accepted values are:
| Text | Q1 |

Create your battle card
Define territory groups and territories for your battle card
Download the quota file template and follow the steps to format your data
On the Planning cycles home page, click the planning cycle to open.
Click the Quota view.
On the battle card canvas, select the battle card where you want to import quotas.
In the data tray, click the Quota sheet tab.

Drop or upload your pre-formatted CSV file.
Click Import.
Tip
If your file matches the required column headings exactly, we'll automatically match columns and publish your file. If your column headings vary from the required columns' spelling or syntax, you will need to complete steps 8 to 11 to match your columns.
Click Next.
Click Automatch to match the required column headings to the headings in your file.
Manually select the corresponding column header name for any column that was not automatically matched.
Click the drop-down icon next to a column that hasn't been matched.
A list of required columns displays.
Select the column name that corresponds with the data column in your file.
For example, your file may have a column called Values, but this data is identified as Value in Varicent Sales Planning. In this case, you would match the Value required column to the Values column in your file.
Repeat steps a an b until all columns are matched.
Click Import.
