Managing your planning cycle

Territory and quota management features let you adjust and adapt to changes during and throughout your planning cycle. They allow for continuous planning to make sure your organization stays on top of the market and to make sure you meet your business targets.

Your planning cycle consists of two versions, plan and manage. The plan version is where you develop your go-to-market strategy for the following sales period. Your manage version is a one-to-one copy of this plan. You can revise the manage version throughout the duration of your planning cycle to adapt to market changes, employee turnover and so on. This way you can preserve your original plan version, while still having the flexibility to change your strategy.

When you first create a planning cycle, only the plan version is available. After you develop your plan, you have the option to activate it. Activating a plan means that your plan is complete and you're ready to start implementing it. At this point, the manage mode becomes available.

When you're in the manage version of your planning cycle, the Varicent Sales Planning user interface is very similar to what you will find in the plan version. Though, some features and functionality are different. Remember, you're maintaining and revising an existing plan, not building one from the ground up. For this reason, features in the manage version are focused on managing your quotas and seller assignments.
