Pin set files

Pin set files contain the data that you need to display pins on the map. For example, if your organization is in the Health Services industry, you may want to add pins to the map to show the location of every hospital that your organization sells to. You can add pin sets from the map view and at the battle card level. Once you import pin set data, you will be able to reuse it to add pins to another battle card.

Note

For more information about Varicent Sales Planning's map feature, see Territory planning using the map and Managing map pins.

Account pins are available out-of-the-box. This pin set uses your Customer Accounts hierarchy data to show the locations of your customer accounts on the map.

Before you get started creating your pin set files, make sure you fully understand the file requirements. See Best practices for formatting your data.

Importing pin set files

You can import pin set files from the map and then customize the look of your pins. Your pins will display on the map for whichever battle card you added the pins to. You can reuse your pin set data in other battle cards by choosing to add pins using existing data.

Before you import your pin set data, make sure that you've completed the following tasks:

  1. On the Planning cycles home page, click the planning cycle to open.

  2. Click the Territory view.

  3. On the battle card canvas, select the battle card that you want to add a pin set to.

  4. In the data tray, click the Territory definition tab.

  5. Switch the toggle from View grid to View map to open the map view.

  6. Click the pin icon location--person.svg and then click document--import.svgAdd pin set.

  7. Select Import new pin set data.

The file type is set to Pin set by default.

  8. Enter a name for your data table.

When you upload your pin set file, we save it under your data table name. You can use the same pin set data to add pins to another battle card.

  9. Click Choose a file.

  10. Navigate to your pre-formatted CSV file, select it, and then click Open.

    Tip

You can download a template file directly from the import dialog. Click Download template CSV file.

  11. Click Import.

  12. Customize your pin set settings:

    Note

We automatically select your data source based on the pin set file you just imported.

    1. Enter a name for your pin set.

This name displays in the map pins drop-down. You can select it to view this pin set on the map. The maximum character limit is 20 characters.

    2. Select a pin set icon.

This determines which icon we show to display your pins on the map.

    3. Select a pin set color.

This determines the color of your pins on the map.

  13. Click Add pin set.
