Territory definition and assignment

The territory definition and assignment tools in Varicent Sales Planning allow you to divide your organization's market into territories. From here you can, define territory groups, define territories and add territory rules. Once you've created your territories, you can run coin sort to sort your sales activities into territories.

Territories grouped under a battle card are broken down by territory groups and territory group types.

  • A territory is the smallest unit of a sales organization that a sales person or team can own.

  • A territory group contains territories. It is used to organize your territories into logical chunks. The owner assigned to the territory group oversees all territories within the group and manages the sellers assigned to those territories.

  • A territory group type is found within a battle card and contains territory groups. It references a hierarchy such as Customer Accounts or Geographies. Multiple territory group types can be defined for a battle card and ranked in order of precedence. When you run coin sort, activities are sorted into territories within the territory group type according to the highest precedence.

The pills view on the Territory definition page shows a breakdown of the territory group types and territory groups contained within your battle card. Each pill displays the user name of the battle card owner, territory group type owner, or territory group owner. This gives you a breakdown of your organizational structure. You can click a pill to filter the territories that appear in the data tray.
